Aleezay Ahmed
Advancing Sustainability through Bio-materials and Circular Economy

At 26, Aleezay is embarking on a new chapter at UEF to explore the holistic evaluation and interconnected value generation of hemp utilization in material, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors (thesis 4.3). With a solid academic foundation and international experiences, she aims to make impactful contributions to the emerging field of bioeconomy.
A Diverse Academic Journey
Aleezay holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and has recently completed an Erasmus Mundus Master’s program in Sustainable Biomass and Bioproducts Engineering. This rigorous program took her across Europe, studying at Wrocław University of Science and Technology (WUST) in Poland, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in Spain, and Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) in Finland. These experiences broadened Aleezay’s understanding of sustainable practices and equipped her with the technical expertise to tackle real-world challenges.
Bridging Research and Innovation
In previous projects, Aleezay focused on developing bio-based adhesives and exploring environmental remediation. These research experiences not only strengthened her technical skills but also deepen her interest in addressing environmental issues. Aleezay realized that simply innovating with new materials wasn’t enough; the key was incorporating circular economy principles to make these innovations sustainable.
This drove Aleezay to explore how biomass can be leveraged to develop sustainable products and solutions. This combination of curiosity, hands-on research, and a commitment to sustainability continues to be the basis of her current research and interests.
Why the Bioeconomy?
Growing up in Pakistan, Aleezay witnessed environmental challenges first-hand, such as limited diversification, resource constraints, and the underutiliSation of crop residues. These early observations shaped her commitment to sustainability and bioeconomy, as harnessing biomass efficiently could create environmental benefits and open new economic avenues, especially in countries like Pakistan.
Future Aspirations: Balancing Research and Real-World Impact
Aleezay’s immediate goal after her research is to gain industry experience, understanding how to translate lab-scale research into practical applications. This hands-on experience will help her bridge the gap between innovation and market-ready solutions. Aleezay is also open to pursuing an academic role, where she aims to foster collaboration between academic researchers and industry players in Pakistan, ensuring research translates into tangible advancements.
Beyond Research: A Personality That Stands Out and A Love for Creativity and Exploration
Describing herself as empathetic, meticulous, and funny, Aleezay approaches challenges with a positive outlook and attention to detail. These qualities not only define her professional interactions but also make her a reliable and approachable team member.
Outside of research, Aleezay enjoys cooking, illustrating, and watching crime documentaries. These hobbies reflect her creative side and appreciation for both problem-solving and artistic expression.
The song Lighter Machis by The Tamaashbeens best represents her professional persona as Aleezay is the embodiment of perseverance. Her journey is a testament to determination, collaboration, and a commitment to sustainability. With a growing expertise in biomaterials and bioeconomy, she is poised to make a meaningful impact in the field and beyond.
